KRISTEN GUNNESS
Founder and CEO

Kristen has over 20 years of experience advising senior leaders in government and the private sector on East Asia political, economic, and security affairs. Prior to founding Vantage Point Asia, Mrs. Gunness served for four years as the Director of the Navy Asia Pacific Advisory Group at the Pentagon, where she advised the Chief of Naval Operations. She also served for six years as the Deputy Director of CNA’s China Studies Center. Mrs. Gunness frequently speaks at nationally recognized institutions, to include the Brookings Institute, the US Institute of Peace, the Hoover Institution, Woodrow Wilson Center, the Naval War College, and National Defense University. She has published extensively on East Asian security and foreign policy affairs. She holds an MA from Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service and is a graduate of the Hopkins-Nanjing Center for Chinese and American Studies.

AARON GRAY is an analyst of elite politics and social dynamics in contemporary China, with over 20 years of experience watching and writing about the country. He has advised government and private sector leaders on China’s political institutions, leadership strategy, internal stability, security and intelligence forces, social protests, and propaganda system. Mr. Gray formerly served as a political analyst for the Office of East Asia and Pacific Analysis at the Central Intelligence Agency and as lead researcher for a non-profit organization monitoring Beijing’s activities on China’s western border. His recent publications include an essay on Chinese leadership decision-making and analysis of information flow inside the Chinese Communist Party bureaucracy. Mr. Gray holds an MA from the University of Washington and is a graduate of the Hopkins-Nanjing Center for Chinese and American Studies.
